going home

I got up and looked out the window. The snow was coming down softly and covering up the streets. Dave was due to head out to CalArts in California, and Amy was ready to head out for Portales. Mary was at work. The TV commentators brought us up short. I 40 was shut down going east from Albuquerque. and caustion was encouraged in travel west.

Computer sites told a story of wait unless you had to travel. Both of these had been with me in Costa Rico,in the sixties and of course had heard the stories of "The Trip around the world".

"Well Dad, you would take off>>>".
I didn't confirm or deny.

"If I can get through to Grants and then to Gallup, it should be a good trip through Flagstaff. "

It was probably true. He started packing and and with hugs around he took off.

The day progressed and so did Dave. He texted messaged to Amy.. I don't have that skill.

Dave and Mary had ridden up with me from Costa Rica . On that trip we had driven through a war between Nicaragua and Salvadore but that is another story.

NOw it is just wait and keep in touch.

got to keep going

I'm starting to get a few comments and that is incentive enough for me.
I feel fairly strongly that most people should have a globe or a couple of maps to check out where the places in the news are.
With this in mind we got each of our grandsons a globe and gave them a copy of our itinerary to use as a point of reference. It is interesting to note that Colombo Ceylon is now Sri Lanka. and many of the boundaries of countries have changed over the years.

Later I will tell a little about traveling through out Central America...sometimes with various family members and some times alone. In some ways language wasn't as much of a barrier as I thought it would be. but more on that later.

genesis

Many aspects of travel have influenced my attitude and behavior. Some of these will be chronicled in this blog. Some you can figure out from information on my geneology pages in my web pages.
It will give me a chance to get off the freudian couch.

Dec. 26

Roger the traveler is up and running. Kids have all been contacted and lo and behold they have been traveling while I sit here at home.

There will be the Trip around the world which starts this off and you and your family can see if you can locate these places which we docked at over the years and you can see if you can find them.
Have fun and Merry christmas!!!
